Upgrade to the Dynamic Learning Network Edition

Upgrade Dynamic Learning (Network) to Version 2

We have recently made an important update to the Network Edition of the Dynamic Learning Engine which enhances its functionality on both Mac and PC platforms.  It is important that you request that your network manager download and install the latest version of the Engine.

Amongst other improvements, Version 2 of Dynamic Learning adds a Page Zoom tool, a Resources Overview panel, an enhanced Search, "Add to lesson" buttons, and the capacity to export lessons as SCORM packs.  It also enhances the SCORM export from the Admin Console by allowing you to export content in smaller chunks, and allows the default userdata save location to be changed.

This free update will allow you to get even more out of your existing Dynamic Learning titles.  It also incorporates many small bug-fixes, so please make sure you upgrade.

Upgrading the Dynamic Learning Engine

PC users

  1. Click these links to read the latest PDFs of the PC installation instructions and Technical Help document, which gives guidance on new features in the Admin Console.
  2. Download version 2.2.30 of the Engine here (34 MB).  It is a self-extracting archive which will automatically launch the MSI installer.  Save the file to a location of your choice.
  3. Double-click the file to install.

N.B. If you install the new version of the Engine to the same location as your current version, any titles that you have 'mapped' using the Admin Console will remain mapped. If you are running the title across a network, any shortcuts that have been created on client machines will be unaffected.

Mac users

Please note that no version of Dynamic Learning, including the update below, is compatible with OS X 10.7 (Lion), as Apple have dropped support for PowerPC code, and the DL codebase is PPC-only.  We recommend you migrate to the online version of Dynamic Learning, details of which are to be found throughout this site.

  1. Click these links to read the latest PDFs of the Mac installation instructions and Technical Help document, which gives guidance on new features in the Admin Console.
  2. Download a zip file containing version 2.2.30 of the Engine here (33.5 MB).
  3. Unzip the file. Installation is drag-and-drop.
N.B. If you have used the Admin Console to 'map' to titles installed in other locations we suggest that you make a copy of the 'Admin:other:settings.xml' file. Once you have updated the two folders, restoring this file will save you having to 're-map' any titles.

Netbook PC users

Dynamic Learning was designed to run at the fixed size of 1024 x 768 pixels: some netbooks do not meet this minimum requirement for DL use and DL will refuse to run on them.  Users affected by this issue may like to download and install a special edition of Dynamic Learning from the link below. This version resizes the entire DL interface to fit within the netbook screen - but at a cost of reduced legibility.  (It will run as normal on computers with screens that meet the minimum specifications.)

Please note that this update has not been rigorously tested and is offered "as is": unfortunately we cannot offer support should you encounter problems.

Update for Germany 1918-1945

This update fixes an error when using the Admin Console to export the resources for use in the Kaleidos VTLE. Applying the update will also allow resources to be exported for SCORM 1.2- and SCORM 1.3-compliant Virtual Learning Environments.

Connecting Science Year 7 upgrade

Connecting Science Year 7 was published without the Assessment Engine – the interactive tests element of the program.  The upgrade was supplied to most users on a separate disc, known as the Connecting Science Expansion Pack.  If you did not receive or have lost this disc you can download the upgrade here instead. You must have already installed Connecting Science Year 7 to make use of this upgrade.

PC users

  1. Download the Expansion Pack zip file here (152 MB).
  2. Unzip the file. Do not attempt to open or extract the file direct from the link and do not attempt to run the program without unzipping the file – it won't work.
  3. Double-click "Start.exe" and follow the instructions.  Please make sure you read the installation instructions PDF as the Assessment Engine is a database which may require special permissions to be set.

Mac users

  1. Download the Expansion Pack disc image here (172 MB).
  2. Double-click the DMG file to mount it on your desktop.
  3. Double-click "Start Dynamic Learning" and follow the instructions.  Please make sure you read the installation instructions PDF as the Assessment Engine is a database which may require special permissions to be set.
When the Expansion Pack has been correctly installed the name of the title within Dynamic Learning will be different and a new "Interactive Tests" button will appear in the interface.
