A level Physical Education – Tips for Synoptic Questions

A-level PE exams are tricky. There is a lot of content over the 2 years and although it is likely that only a small amount will actually appear in the final exam, students need to know it all walking into the exam. To be prepared, students need to carefully plan their revision with three phases of activities.

Before establishing these phases, it is crucial they know the subjects Assessment Objectives (AO);

Demonstrate knowledge of theory, apply knowledge and theory to sporting situations, analyse and evaluate theory

A colour code is used by lots of centres to highlight these as they very much underpin the exam questions. Approximately 25% is assessed from each area so it is important to let them know it is not just knowledge they need to show but also the skills of being able to apply and evaluate!
