  • Learn exciting ways to teach your pupils the key skills required for National Qualifications through easily accessible texts and simple question structures

10.15am The Context
  •  A look at Reading for UAE results in NQs and areas of improvement
  •  Discussion on existing resources/approaches to teaching these skills in the BGE.
  •   Challenges faced by pupils at National 5/Higher and how these can be addressed by the BGE.
11.15am Morning coffee
11.30am  S1/S2
  •  Suggested approaches to teaching close reading skills and an outline of what skills should be covered in S1/S2.
  •  Sharing of suggested resources and how these can be used
  •  Feedback/discussion on how these can be used
12.30pm Lunch
1.30pm S3 – Preparing for Nationals
  •  Suggested approaches and an outline of what skills should be covered in S3 with a focus on preparing pupils for National Qualifications.
  •  Sharing of resources and how these can be used (resources for potential N4 pupils and potential N5 pupils provided)
  •  Feedback/discussion on how these can be used
2.30pm Afternoon tea
2.45pm Making it fun
  •  Examples of active and collaborative activities to reduce the “bore” factor of teaching these skills
  •  Discussion/feedback/advice on how to use these activities within your own lessons
3.45pm Review and reflect
