They're like buses - you wait for a portable version of Chambers or Bradford's, and they both come along at once...
Bought the new "pocket" versions of both Bradford's and Chambers Crossword Dictionaries this afternoon. Nothing to choose between them on price - 6 quid each. Chambers is smaller (size-wise), but lists 200,000 words, as opposed to 120,000 in Bradford's.
Of the two, I'd recommend Chambers. Bradford's has made a massive error - they have removed all the tables of useful lists from the full-size version, so if you want, say, the name of a tree, you're out of luck, as there are *no* suggestions in Bradford's at all. I don't know if this means that a pocket version of Bradford's Lists is in the offing (Amazon don't list one) but with this flaw, I can't recommend the pocket Bradford's at all.

There is a new pocket version of Chambers Crossword Dictionary.
It is small and neat and perfect for taking on holiday. All of the
entries are listed according to word length so it is easy to search for
an answer. As well as the usual headwords there are fairly extensive
lists of places and people that adds an encyclopaedic essence. I feel
that in this new edition a lot of the pointless duplications have been
omitted and there is more a sense of contact with the Chambers lexicon.
Cross-references are clearly indicated and words that may be used by
setters are marked with Hidden, Anagram etc. At £5.99 it is a bargain
and I can certainly recommend it.
