Summary:
As is often pointed out, the trouble with ultrasound scanning is that it is totally operator dependent and skilled operators need to be properly trained. Practical Ultrasound: An Illustrated Guide will assist the beginner in learning how to operate ultrasound equipment, how to scan, and how to interpret the images that appear on the screen.
This guide takes the operator through common scans that are typically encountered on a day-to-day basis in a busy hospital and are arranged according to anatomical sites. Each chapter comprises a revision section on useful anatomy, a scan protocol presented with clear instructions in a step-by-step approach, and a section on clinically relevant pathologies. Clear pictoral and scan presentation together with useful ‘Hints’ throughout will assist learning and help to improve the quality of images.
Practical Ultrasound is an essential resource to all those learning to use ultrasound: sonographers, radiologists, and other medical and surgical specialists.

... a long-overdue contribution to any student or practitioner of ultrasonography in any of its many modalities ... Practical Ultrasound: A Illustrated Guide is one of the rare volumes that should be present in any ultrasonographer's library. The ease of use and clarity of the information provided is timeless and valuable.

5 Stars: Essential reading for a radiology registrar An excellent book that is a core text for all radiology registrars and ultrasonographers alike. Each chapter begins with a useful anatomy section that saves you having to plough through bigger anatomy text books. A practical step-by-step section on how to perform an ultrasound scan is supplemented by some high quality images and handy hints. Then each chapter finishes with a summary of common pathology likely to be encountered. All in all, this book has everything a trainee needs to become competent in learing the skills of ultrasound scanning. Buy it!

5 Stars I found this book to be true to its word and be a great practical guide: simple illustrations, uncomplicated language and acurate images. Good as a teaching guide for beginners and as a reference for more experienced sonographers. I found the section on liver and renal transplants to be the most helpful.
