The 'Recent Advances' series from the Royal Society of Medicine Press provides timely reviews on current topics of interest to its audience, and the histopathology titles are eagerly awaited by trainees and Consultants alike.
'Recent Advances' used to be one of the key texts for trainees preparing for the MRCPath Part 1 exam, when it was said that essay questions were chosen by examiners from this book! Although the format of the Royal College of Pathologists Part 1 examination has changed from essays to multiple choice questions, the range of current interest topics presented here will still appeal to trainees, and they should still turn to 'Recent advances' in preparation for their exam.

4 Stars: Comprehensive up-to-date review of topics in histopathogy
The tone of the book is down to earth and informative, and while expecting the reader to have a thorough basic understanding of pathologic principles, the authors make their subjects relevant and accessible, while imparting a great deal of information. The chapters are written by various authors who have experience in different areas, and the clarity and ease of their writing styles adds to the book.

4 Stars: Informative, detailed, a must for MRCPath candidates
The contributors have considerable expertise in the areas in which they write, and although there is a large amount of information in the book, it is clearly and concisely written. Also, chapters on internet applications and telepathology broaden the scope of knowledge, which is very beneficial to both trainees in pathology, and more senior pathologists.
