About the Author(s):
Marilyn Breeze is an external verifier for BTEC Public Services and is involved in the writing of new BTEC Public Services specifications. She has a huge amount of experience of the Public Services sector and in education. She has worked for the Police, Social Services and Education Departments, then as a lecturer in Further and Higher Education. Marilyn is currently the Public Services Course Co-Ordinator at the University of Derby College, Buxton.
Margaret Cronin has been a BTEC external verifier in Public Services since 2002, and has been involved in writing materials for the new BTEC Public Services specifications. She has a background in the public services, having served as a police officer and, more recently, a teacher and lecturer, delivering and assessing Public Services since 1999. During the ten years spent in Further Education Margaret was Programme Co-ordinator for the Public Services programmes. Margaret has also undertaken inspections on behalf of Estyn (Welsh equivalent of Ofsted). A member of the Institute of Educational Assessors, Margaret has been accepted as a Centre Risk Assessor with BTEC and as a Standards Verifier for the Foundation Learning Tier.
Alan Spafford is involved in the re-writing of the BTEC Public Services qualifications from entry level to level 3. He is also involved in the assessment programme for the BTEC Foundation Learning Tier as a Standards Verifier and is employed as an external verifier for the NQF levels 2 and 3 qualifications for the last four years. He is currently a lecturer at two further education colleges in Nottingham and has taught public service qualifications from level 1 to level 3 since 1995.
