About the Author(s):
Dirk Sykes is Principal Examiner for the WJEC and Head of Geography at Y Pant Comprehensive School, in South Wales. He has a wealth of experience of teaching and writing external examinations and he leads a team of examiners who mark the completed work of candidates.

Stacey Burton-McCabe is an independent Teaching and Learning Consultant with extensive teaching experience up to senior leadership level. Stacey works with several education and training establishments, including Bath Spa University. She delivers INSET in schools across the country on topics including Assessment for Learning, Active Engagement Strategies, Pastoral Teams and Thinking Skills. She also works with students on topics such as revision and study skills. In 2007, Stacey was accredited as a Charted Geographer with the RGS and became a member of the Geographical Association's Secondary Phase Committee.
