Reviews:
The changing A-level specifications have led to the appearance of a variety of new materials, covering new ideas and elements.
AQA AS Geography has been written to meet the requirements of one new examination syllabus and does this very well. It contains plenty of up-to-date material and is organised into relevant chapter headings. I was impressed not only by the layout of the text, but also by the quality of the photographs and the accuracy of the diagrams, which are very easy to interpret.
The introduction provides an overview of command words such as 'analyse' and 'evaluate', which many students initially find difficult to understand. Each chapter includes assessment exercises which mirror the type of questions set at examination level. This will undoubtedly be useful to teachers for setting assessments in class.
The book also contains a separate unit on geographical skills, divided into sections such as 'cartographic' and 'statistical'. These sections will be particularly helpful to those who have not encountered such skills at GCSE.
Schools and students will find this resource very useful, and, in my opinion, it represents excellent value for money.
