Are you looking for a course to help you achieve A-level standard in German? Perhaps you are taking the language up again after a break from it? ‘Teach Yourself Improve your German’ is the ideal way to extend your language skills if you already have some knowledge of German. Whether you’ve completed ‘Teach Yourself German’ or any other beginners’ German course, either by yourself or at evening class, you will find this the perfect course for building on your existing knowledge and improving your spoken and written language.

The book covers a wide range of topics of the sort you will want to talk about when in a German-speaking country and teaches you the kind of everyday language and features of speech that will enable you to communicate with confidence and feel comfortable taking part in conversation with native speakers of German. The choice of material aims to give you something of the flavour of German-speaking countries today and each unit is based around a single theme with lively interviews and conversations on the accompanying recording. There are activities based on the interviews and texts to help you remember what you’ve learnt and put your knowledge into practice. The first units are designed to consolidate and build on your previous knowledge, focusing on some of the essential language functions and grammar points. You will then progress to dealing with more complex language and issues in the subsequent units. This new edition contains an English-German vocabulary, a Grammar glossary to help you remember the points you’ve already learnt, self-assessment tests for you to check your progress and a ‘taking it further’ section to direct you to further sources of German.

  • Features everyday, colloquial German - this book takes you beyond the basic German you need to carry out everyday tasks and teaches you to communicate confidently in conversation with German speakers.
  • Enjoyable to use – the units are based on themes giving a flavour of life in German-speaking countries today.
  • Now available on CD - the accompanying recordings contain two hours of material.
  • Check your progress as you learn - the new edition contains self-assessment tests so that you can assess your progress and review areas of difficulty.
