Hello from Mel Jones
By Melanie Jones
A bit about me...
I studied history at the University of Kent and after graduating in 1999, I took a PGCE teaching course in history. I qualified to teach history in 2000 and started life teaching at a grammar school in Kent, followed by a comprehensive where I stayed for a further 7 years. During this time I led provision for gifted and talented pupils and key stage 3 humanities. Then....an opportunity to work for a fantastic, supportive organisation popped up. I joined the Historical Association in September 2009 and have been happily supporting history teachers and the teaching of history since.
My own historical periods of interest lie with the Anglo-Saxons, Carolingians and Victorian social history. I have also more recently delved into 18th century and Russian history, so as you can imagine, I was very pleased to see the Historical Association's fantastic new Russian history podcasts published this week in our new Student Zone, available to corporate member schools! With further podcasts being added virtually every month, the Student Zone is already brimming with great resources to help teachers to teach and students to learn from the latest academic thinking.
Over the coming month, I will be blogging with the latest news from the Historical Association, the latest news on history curriculum issues and on all things history!
