Meet the team

Jim Belben
Editorial Director for Humanities and Languages

At university I specialised in American History, first at Keele then at Sussex University.

Since 1987 I have been commissioning Humanities books and digital resources for secondary schools. I built up the John Murray History list, then when John Murray was bought by Hodder Education in 2002 I took over the management of the combined Humanities strengths of John Murray and Hodder Education.

As well as being Editorial Director I still commission History titles and in particular the books and resources from the Schools History Project and from Ben Walsh. Titles that I have commissioned have been awarded a range of prizes: winning the TES textbook award and also the Longman-History Today 'New Generation' Book of the year.

I was formerly Chair of the Educational Publishers History Panel - representing the industry in meetings with government education departments in their initiatives in History education. I serve on the Schools History Project's Advisory Group and I am an Honorary Fellow of the Historical Association. I tweet as @HodderHistory.

I am really interested in curriculum development and in working out how publishers like us can best help make teaching and learning more effective and more fun in schools.

Away from work I ♥ cycling and gardening and get far too excited about Premier League Fantasy Football!

Please do get in touch – we'd love to hear your ideas for new publishing projects. And if you have any ideas on how we can improve this website, or if you have an idea to contribute, we'd love to hear from you.

Jane Tyler
Head of Humanities and Northern Ireland Publishing

I am responsible for publishing History and Religious Studies resources and have commissioned series such as Access to History and Edexcel Modern World History over the past few years.

I enjoy working with teachers, examiners and authors to develop resources that help support the teaching and learning of the subject.

I am Chair of the Educational Publishers Council History Panel - a body that brings together all the History Publishers in different companies.

Senior Marketing Executive

The editors
Clockwise from top left, we are Maddy Clark (Managing Editor), Maddy Eames (Project Editor), Alex Cooper (Subject Editor) and Vicky Robertshaw (Desk Editor) and we all work on projects on the Humanities lists. All together we’ve worked on these books, and more recently digital titles, for about 22 years.
